Holiday rentals and the shift to the countryside

As a result of the ban on holiday rentals in apartment buildings in Palma de Mallorca, the villages on the Balearic island are seeing steadily growing visitor numbers.

Municipalities such as Llucmajor and Llubí are just two of the up-and-coming areas benefiting from this. The supply of holiday apartments is large, and the municipalities are working to expand leisure activities and shopping so that they can offer holidaymakers a good all-round package.

Municipalities such as Santa Maria are taken as a model and prove that a holiday in rural areas can also be very appealing.

In Palma itself, overnight stays have fallen sharply, and the hope is that this will calm the housing market somewhat and that affordable housing will steadily grow.
